Trying to blog for schalit-way.net

OK, I'm just getting done with my first Drupal experience. Have to say I found it pretty painful.

Hint #1: do *not* attempt to put an @ sign in your database password: it gets interpreted. Uggh.

Hint #2: do *not* believe any of the information about how to point Apache at Drupal. Do obvious things with /etc/apache/conf.d/drupal.conf and everything should just work.

Hint #3: the "right" way to put the house logo you see at the upper left on the page appears to be to edit the theme.php file, in this case chameleon.php. Just setting the site name does almost, but not quite the right thing.

In the not-Drupal's-fault category, XSVG editing under Linux appears to totally suck. I ended up producing that cool-looking house PNG from SVG with...emacs. Hooray.

It's bedtime. Enough blogging. I'll try to keep up here as I go. It'll give people some insight into how this place is managed.

...oops. Question: why is the date of this post in GMT???

Time

Because my user time was set to GMT. Hmm. Now how do I make the new-user default be PDT? Everyone in the neighborhood tends to be in our timezone :-).
